You’ve got your training schedule and your nutrition sorted. But there is one fundamental part that is often neglected from our health and fitness plan – our mind.
Without a strong mind how can we achieve our goals?
Without resilience how will you overcome setbacks?
Without self-belief how will you push yourself to reach that PB?
Without a positive attitude how will you face up to challenges?
And, without self-respect and self-love, what is the purpose of your training?
Think about those times when you’ve shown up for a workout physically but are checked out mentally.
Now compare that to a session when you were totally present, engaged, focussed and had purpose.
What’s the difference? Mindset. Mindset is EVERYTHING. That’s why Lorna Jane’s daily practice is Move, Nourish AND Believe. All three elements are needed.
A positive mindset is as important for our wellbeing as eating well and working out. So, what are we doing to ensure that we are strengthening our mental and emotional health?
Here are our top 4 tips to build and strengthen your mindset:
Quit the comparison game.
The first part of building a positive mindset is to make a conscious choice to ditch comparing yourself to others and focus on you.
Set your own goals and forget about how someone else looks or what they’re doing. This is about you. You owe yourself the time and attention to work on you, for you.
In a world where we want, and can get pretty much everything immediately, our patience is thin and expectations high. Start celebrating progress rather than getting frustrated at not getting the result you want instantly. Don’t beat yourself up for not being at the finish line right away. We all know that good things take time and that all progress is improvement. Take the time to recognise and celebrate the milestones along the way to your greater goal. Stop taking yourself too seriously.
Yes, you need to be committed and focussed to achieve your goals, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun in the process. We put an insane amount of pressure on ourselves day in day out. Relax – just for a moment. The whole point of being healthy is to live a happier life, right? So why not actually make working on your health and wellbeing enjoyable rather than a chore.
Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude. The foundation of a positive mindset is gratitude. Appreciating what you have and actively acknowledging the positive aspects of your life goes an enormous way to having a strong mindset. Start by writing down 3 things each day that you’re grateful for. At first it may take you some time, but before you know it they’ll all come to mind instantly. More tips here.
